Binge Eating Disorder

When I was about 17 I suffered from anorexia and bulimia. I got a bit better in my late 20’s but just continued to diet and stay skinny. When I was 29 I met my ex-husband and as my therapist said, he brought my dormant eating disorder back to life. He wanted to be a very clean eater and with good intentions, tried to get me to do the same. We would go to the store and buy all vegetables. We would juice and roast veggies until we couldn’t take it anymore, and go get del taco and oreo cookies. This awakened the beast in me that I never really got rid of. My therapist said there are usually three options for teens with anorexia: they recover, they die, or the develop binge eating disorder. I suffered with binge eating from 29-41 until I realized it was another form of my old eating disorder. I had gained and lost 70 pounds about six times after my child was born, in the span of about 6 years. I then blew up to the biggest I had ever been, a weight gain of 135 pounds over what I was when I was when I was in my 20’s. I entered the eating disorder program with Kaiser and tried to make changes. I was sick of the dieting and binge cycle. I will create more posts that detail what steps I took to overcome this. Stay tuned.
